Department: ServiceReports to: General ManagerJOB SUMMARY:Assigns and provides work direction to employees in the John Deere Equipment Service Department, advises and recommends changes and improvements regarding Service Department processes to the General Manager, and assists in the processing of repair and warranty work.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES:Supervises mechanics and shop workersAssists shop mechanics in diagnosing technical issuesReviews work orders to ensure repairs are completed in a timely mannerMaintains work flow in the shopProvides assistance on complicated or timely repairsReview all warranty claims for the shop to ensure maximum return. Warranty Writer submitsResponsible for safely in the shop environmentResponsible for maintaining product knowledge and providing training to shop mechanics as neededShares best practices with mechanics and establishes common processes throughout the shopActs as liaison with Parts Department to ensure that parts are received timely & assists Parts Department as needed in fulfilling parts.Ensures shop personnel return unused parts using proper procedureEnsure shop housekeeping is maintained on a continual basisEnsures all department tools, equipment and vehicles are kept in good working order. Requests replacements as neededEnsures shop personnel complete all necessary paperwork to include timecards and parts needed are requested on work orders and placed in the appropriate binWorks as a team member of the Service Department and ShowTurfParticipates in at least 8 John Deere technical training sessions per yearResponsible for performance of all technician efficiency and productivityADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Assists Mobile Service Technicians as neededKNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalentOutstanding knowledge of John Deere equipment and allied equipmentOutstanding knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systemsExcellent skills in operating vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposesComputer skills such as Microsoft excel and wordMinimum 3 years experience working in a Service DepartmentExcellent communication skills both verbal and writtenWORKING CONDITIONS:Normal shop and warehouse environments with exposure to office environment. Exposure to heat and loud noisesPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Requires the ability to sit for extended periodsRequires the ability to stand for extended periodsRequires the ability to bend, reach, push and pull, stoop, kneel and crouch on a regular basis.Requires manual dexterity and balanceRequires the ability to read a computer screen and type on a computer keyboardRequires the ability to communicate telephonicallyRequires lifting and moving of parts and equipment, not over 50 lbs, on an occasional basis.
